FAQ – Features, Design, Durability, Performance…
Why should I, as a professional, use EvoBoot Premiums instead of any other boot of the market?
For us it’s very simple… We know that our EvoBoots Premium works best through your hands and expertise. And to convince you to become our partner, let me tell you what can we as a business and our boots as a product offer you as a professional:
1.- Bigger Earnings: In Evohorse we value your time, your skills and your contacts. That’s why we offer you different ways to monetize it:
- Sizing & Selling new boots: we offer you a fitKit & Good margins so you can advise your clients on which boot and of which size they should buy, ensuring them an excellent experience on boots.
- Adapting/adjusting the boots: Above the money obtained from the sale, you can earn a fee doing a professional work on those cases that might need an extra touch (adaptation and/or adjustment).
- Selling and changing worn out or damaged pieces: We all know that anything with its use ends worn out! But because the boot is made of different elements that interacts one to each other through screws, you have the possibility to sell to your client a new piece and exchange it for a fee.
- Updating your client’s boots: Thanks to new ideas, experiences, knowledge or materials we release an update every few years that can be also applied to its older versions. That means not only that you can be sure that you’re always using an innovative solution but also that you can charge a small fee to update your client’s boots.
2.- Professional quality, adaptability & performance: We know, that you, as a professional have the skills and knowledge to value our product and to obtain the 100% of it.
- Regarding the quality… Our Evoboot Premium is made by the injection at high temperatures and high pressure of a special type of plastic which makes it extremely tough and super resistant to wear. For you, as a professional means that you’ll be recommending a reliable & highly durable product!
- Regarding the adaptability… When you begin to play around with our EvoBoot Premium, you’ll realize that the options are endless and that you’re gonna be able to boot any hoof no matter what! Using a…
- Simple heat gun you’ll be able to change it’s shape, make it wider, narrower, longer… even patch it if you want!.
- Simple grinder you’ll be able to make it shorter or to transform it into an orthopedic boot (if you don’t want to buy one of our ortho-EvoBoots solutions).
- Allen key or an electric screwdriver you’ll be able to change and adjust the pieces in few seconds to obtain the perfect fit that every horse deserves.
- Regarding the performance… We 100% guarantee you that you’ll be amazed on how comfortable and free the horse moves when is wearing the EvoBoot Premium that you have previously adapted/adjusted.
Why? Because it has been consciously designed to do what a barefoot hoof needs in every moment. Look!
- Our EvoBoot Premium has a minimum detrimental impact to the leg’s biomechanics during the flying phase of the gait thanks to its light weight and its closing system that stays totally relaxed when there’s no weight on it.
- During the impact phase our EvoBoot Premium let the leg & hoof do its job for the next 3 reasons of its design:
- The rolled heels offers a smooth arrival just like a natural bare hoof would do.
- The thick lower band of the bulb shield blocks the unwanted movements that can happen between the hoof and the inside surface of the boot during the deceleration, reducing the incidence of injury and giving the horse a safe footing. (this is super important for the free movement of a horse in boots).
- The medium grip design allows the boot to slide over the surface… just as I explained before that a bare hoof does!
- During the weight bearing phase, our EvoBoot Premium let the hoof distort as it should, again thanks to its unique design:
- The Elastostop direct stretches enough to allow the expansion of the lateral cartilages and the digital cushion, which is crucial for the blood flow and the management of the released energy.
- The V-shape of the Bulb Shield and the Sole plus the Accordion and the arched sole permits the expansion of the lower surface and the flattening of the sole.
- The lower angle of the boot’s wall, its higher profile and the frontal attachment of the elastostop direct through the pivot allows the boot to follow the collapsing movement of the coronary band.
- Our Evoboot Premium behaves like hell during the breakover phase thanks to:
- All the flexible and elastic aspects of the boot (the Elastostop direct, the V-shape of the Bulb Shield and the Sole, the Accordion, the arched sole and the wall) returns to their relaxed position at the same speed as the different parts of the hoof do.
- The tip’s rolling ensures that the breakover point is where it should be, avoiding the creation of extra levers that can increase your horse’s risk of injury.
- The reinforced tip its designed in a way so it does NOT affect the breakover point but gives an extra of durability to the part of the boot that receives more wear from the interaction with the ground.
What do I have to tell my clients if they ask me how long do they last?
Our protections are made by the injection at high temperatures and high pressure of a special top quality type of plastic which makes them extremely tough and super resistant to wear.
Having that said, the correct answer is: it depends. As you know, there are a lot of situations that affect the lifespan of our protections like the type of terrain, the amount of riding, the medium speed, the weight of the rider, the way that the horse reaches the ground, the type of trimming, etc.
If we speak in length then we can say around 1.200 Km or 124 miles easily and if we speak in months, we can say that for a weekend pleasure riding they can last more than one year and a half, but as we said before, in some cases they last less, however we have many happy trail riders who have had their boots up and running for much longer.
How much do an EvoBoot Premium weight?
The EvoBoot Premium has been designed to be ultralight and the reason is because diminishing the weight is the best way to reduce the strain and stress on your client’s legs. So, this point has become an obsession for us.
Its obvious that the weight will vary depending on the size, BUT taking as a reference the size 2 (the most used of all) of the Premium version weights 300gr or 10’5 ounces.
What I have to say to my clients regarding its maintenance?
The EvoBoot Premium are manufactured to be durable. This means that they only needs to be cleaned with water after having been used and let them dry in a shaded place. Also, if they want to reduce the risks of bacterial build up on the neoprene of the second skin they could simply apply talkistine between uses.
How do Premiums deal with things like... bulbs rubbing, bulbs overheating or water, mud and sand trapping?
EvoBoot Premium have been designed to be able to deal with those daily situations. But let me explain this one by one.
- Bulbs rubbing: Its was already very strange to happen but with the 2021 upgrade of our Premium Boot, we have made it even more difficult! If it happens, its normally due to:
- A bad bulb shields size and/or a bad adjustment.
- A too abrupt use that has not allowed the skin to get used to a new boot
- Bulbs Overheating: All the Premium Boot versions comes with a perforated second skin so we make sure that the air ventilation and breathability is optimal. So its not a thing that you should worry about!
- Water, mud and sand trapping: Those are a handicap for any low profile boots of the market.
- Water is not a difficulty because the rear part of the boot is opened, so the water can go out without problem.
- Mud can get trapped on the Elastostop Direct and should be cleaned with water prior taking them off. But it does not get its way between the second skin and the bulbs region thanks to the design that we have implemented since the 2021 upgrade in which the neoprene goes further up and has a better attachment and cover of the bulbs than older versions did.
- Like with mud, sand does not get its way between the second skin and the bulbs region thanks to the design that we have implemented since the 2021 upgrade in which the neoprene goes further up and has a better attachment and cover of the bulbs than older versions did.
What about the surface? Can the Premiums deal with ANY terrain?
The simple answer is… Yes. They’re tough enough to deal with rocky terrain and have enough grip to deal with grass BUT as its normal, your clients might have slipping problems over wet grass, thin clay mud and/or ice. To avoid this to happen we recommend you as a professional to offer them the possibility to apply ice or even jumping studs.
CAN PREMIUMS BE USED FOR SPORT RIDING?
Our EvoBoot Premium is a sport boot and it has been designed to perfectly fit the requirements of the top riders of different disciplines like dressage, jumping or endurance riding. But, as its normal, it should be correctly sized, adjusted & fitted to perform as expected. But thanks to you, this should not be a problem!
Because there’s still some debate of the use of hoof boots in sports, we recommend that you tell your clients to check the rules of their local riding association!
WILL THE BOOTS STAY ON IN ANY CONDITIONS?
If they are well adapted and fitted they stay on in almost every conditions. As you know, the most difficult condition for any boot and/or even for a nailed shoe too is deep mud. That’s why we recommend that you tell your clients to hand walk or even take the boots out on deep clay muddy surfaces.
HOW LONG CAN A HORSE WEAR THE PREMIUMS AT ONE TIME?
Our EvoBoots Premium come with an antirubbing material and a transpirating system in it’s bulb shield that makes them perfect for being worn over extended periods of time. But, you have to keep in mind that:
- It’s a sport boot and not a therapeutic boot. So we recommend not to leave any horse unattended while wearing the boots because it can play with them and break it accidentally. Failure to take precautions may void the warranty.
- As always with any new material, we recommend to let the horse’s skin adapt to the boots and make a gradual ‘break-in’, starting with 30 minutes and increasing from there, while monitoring the comfort of the horse.
FAQ – EVO BOOT Sizing
HOW DO I FIND THE CORRECT SIZE FOR MY CLIENTS?
Using a fit Kit is a no brainer way to obtain a perfect fit. That’s why we highly recommend you to have one in your car. It’s use is very simple… the best size is the one that once in place if you try to twist it, the whole hoof twists with it.
If using a FitKit is not possible (this should not happen to professionals), you can:
- Measure the length and width of each hoof.
- Look at our sizing chart and check the width first making sure that the fit is as tight as possible. When you have done this, then check the length. If:
- The length is ok or too long you’re in the correct size.
- The length is too short, then you’ll have to make it longer with heat adaptation or taking a bigger size and making it narrower with heat adaptation.
- Determine if the horse’s hooves are Standard or Non standard. If they’re standard they will need non or a very easily adjustment. BUT if they’re non standard, then you should act as a professional, play around with your tools and skills and do the perfect adaptation that only you can do.
CAN I SIZE MY CLIENT'S HOOVES AFTER THE TRIM.
Ideally you should you should measure the hooves 4-6 days after its regular trim, BUT you can also do it straight away after the trim, just be a little bit more conservative on the wall that time. Doing so, you’ll make sure that the boot will not get small between trims.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY ONLINE MEASUREMENTS FALLS BETWEEN 2 SIZES?
Then you should get a smaller size and adapt it by heat.
FAQ – ADJUSTING AND ADAPTATION OF THE EVOBOOT PREMIUM
IS HEAT ADAPTATION A MUST?
The answer to this question is… it depends on the horses hooves shape. To be more clear, if the horse has:
- Standard hooves (short, compact, non flared walls…) and when sizing with a fit kit there are no air gaps, heat adaptation is NOT a must.
- Non standard hooves (flared walls, heavily underrun heels, heavily upright heels, or heavily crooked) then heat adaptation is required to adapt the boot to each situation and obtain the perfect fit that every horse deserves.
HOW EASY CAN EVO BOOTS BE ADJUSTED?
The Evo Boot Premium has been designed to be easy! There are basically 3 things that you should have in mind when adjusting it:
- Move the position of the bulb shield until the inner side of its lower strap makes direct contact to the heel region.
- Move the position of the Elastostop direct until its ring becomes round or slightly horizontally oval when the system is locked.
- Check the Bulb Shield’s upper rim from a rear view and make sure that it surpasses the bulb’s curve and it does not reach the interphalangeal joint and curves inwards. Most of the time the process ends up here BUT depending on the shape of your horse’s hooves it can happen that the upper rim:
- Does NOT surpass the bulb’s curve. If that happens, then bring the Bulb Shield one hole back and try it again. If this does not solve the problem, means that the BS its too small for your horse and that you should increase its size by 2.
- Reaches the interphalangeal joint and curves slightly inwards. If that happens, simply bring the pivot to the first hole of the lowest raw to pull it down and try it again. If this does not solve the problem, means that the BS is too big fir your horse and that you should diminish its size by 1.
WHICH IS THE MOST COMMON MISTAKE WHEN ADJUSTING THE BOOT?
The most typical mistake professionals make is leaving the bulb shield long to make the fitting super easy to their users and over-tightening the direct elastostop trusting that it will keep the boot in place. Let me tell you that the boot is not intended to work in this manner and doing so will cause looses and / or breaks.
Let me explain you why is NOT a good idea to do so! In this configuration, when the hoof reaches the ground, because there’s a gap between the heels and the BS lower strap, the hoof will move and accelerate inside the boot while covers this free space impacting heavily on the BS lower strap provoking its lost or even breaking the lateral holes of the shell.
WHAT IF I HAVE A CLIENT THAT TWISTS THE BOOTS
Because you’re a professional we have to assume that the sizing, the adjustment and the fitting is correct… so the only thing that can be happening is that the horse, due to its conformation is a “boot twister”. In that case:
- If the hoof is slightly oval you could make an asymmetrical adjustment on its Bulb Shield or even open a frontal window.
- If the hoof is totally round… then… we must say… use your imagination.
Why making a perfect fit is so important?
End users, normally don’t have the skills to obtain a perfect fit, especially for those horses with non standard hooves. And also they normally don’t have the knowledge to understand the negative effects and risks for their own horse that represents the presence of extra levers, undesirable movements between the hoof and the boot, and/or double impacts, to list some. But from our perspective, you, as a professional should:
- Have the skills and knowledge to obtain a perfect fit.
- Be aware of the consequences of the previously commented situations.
- Get paid to do a good job.
FAQ – EXTRAS ( Pads, Studs, Orthopedics…)
CAN MY CLIENTS USE PADS IN THEM?
Yes, you can use full pads or frog pads to give comfort and/or stimulate certain tissues, BUT if you do, please:
- Use pads with less than 6 mm of thickness (anything thicker will compromise the fit).
- Glue the pads to the boot’s shell so you make sure that they don’t move.
CAN THEY PUT STUDS ON THEM?
Using studs is very important when dealing with clay mud & ice. So… Yes, you can use:
- Any type of boot studs. Please apply them keeping in mind that they cannot extend past the sole!
- Jumping studs. The sole should be perforated and a special nut should be used.
As an alternative to studs and mainly for those horses that works on wet grass, you can modify the grooves on the sole with a Dremel or any other similar tool to increase its grip.
CAN MY CLIENTS USE PREMIUMS FOR ORTHOPEDICS?
Yes, you as a professional can:
- Easily transform a standard Premium Boot into an orthopedic boot.
- Buy one of our Ortho-EvoBoot line of products which are different types of already modified shells:
- Ortho-EvoBoot wedged for DDFT problems
- Ortho-EvoBoot wide Toe for CET problems
- Ortho-EvoBoot wide branch for colateral and/or suspensory ligament branches injuries.
- Ortho-EvoBoot full rolling for advanced arthrosis, laminitis and/or DDFT issues.
FAQ – Others
DO THE BOOTS STRETCH AFTER A FEW USES?
Some of your horse owners sometimes will complain that they have a hard time putting on their boots because they are too tight. Please, notice that the EvoBoot Premium is a below the coronet band boot so they need a tight fit to perform, so modifying it’s adjustment to make their fitting easier is a mistake. Instead of that:
- Show to your clients the correct posture and procedure to fit a boot with both hands.
- Encourage your clients to keep on trying because they simply have to get used to it.
- Tell your clients that with repetitive use, the boots will stretch and will slowly become adapted to their horse’s hoof shape. And that perhaps in the future you’re gonna have to make some minor adjustments on them.
CAN PREMIUMS BE USED ON A SHOD HOOF?
Some people uses boots in combination with metal shoes to increase shock absorption when working on hard surfaces. But our EvoBoot Premium is a sport boot and is not designed for that purpose, so we cannot guarantee it’s performance and we do not recommend it´s use it in that way.
WHAT TO DO IF SOME PART BREAKS OR A SCREW GETS BLOCKED?
You should contact the dealer who sold you the boots to determine if it’s a warranty case or not. If it’s a warranty case we will replace it, and if it’s not, your client will have to buy a replacement, ideally from you.
SOME USERS COMPLAIN THAT THE SCREWS KEEP COMING LOOSE. HOW CAN I FIX IT?
During the production of our EvoBoots Premium we avoid applying any type of glue in the screws to give you the opportunity of changing the screws position and make a proper and perfect adaptation. When riding, there’s a lot of concussion and the screws can get loose. To fix it you just need to apply Loctite® 243 (it can be purchased in any hardware store) to the screws before securing them in the preferred position.
Evoboot Glue On
Give comfort and relief to your hypersensitive clients 24/7 or let the owners forget about boots during competitions or long rides with our adaptable, super durable and easy to apply Glue ons!
FAQ – Features, Design, Durability, Performance…
Why should I use EvoBoot Glue Ons instead any other glue ons of the market?
Glue Ons on general are the most reliable and comfortable solution in the boots market. As you already know, its main issues are:
- The price of its application (acrylic glue is expensive)
- The side effects that can appear (less stimulation and microorganism grow) when they’re applied in long term.
Like coins, everything in life have 3 sides. Because we know that, in EvoHorse we do our best to diminish the negative side of the glue ons application. Let me show you why our Glue ons are simply different from the rest:
1.- Its material: Like the Premiums, our Glue Ons are made by the injection at high temperatures and high pressure of a special type of plastic which makes them extremely tough and super resistant to wear. For you, as a pro means that you’ll have happy clients and less problems!
2.- Its recyclability: In Evohorse Sl, we try to give to our products the longest life possible and with our Glue Ons we have brought that to a new level. Thanks to the characteristics of the material that we use to produce them, after they have been used you can:
- Clean the inside with a wire wheel headed drill
- Store it for as long as you want
- Re-heat it to adapt it to the same horse or to another horse (if necessary)
- Glue it again.
You as a professional can reproduce this cycle between 3 and 4 times on Glue Ons that have been applied for 2 months each cycle! Meaning that the same Glue On can last 4 to 8 months. Contributing to:
- Your horse owners a significant reduction in costs.
- Your horses as clients few months of comfort.
- You as a professional few months of tranquility
3.- Its adaptability: Because our glue Ons are made of a thermoplastic material, they can be easily and fast adapted with the help of a heat gun and/or a grinder to ANY hoof shape, situation and/or pathology.
I can personally guarantee you that when you get use to them you’re gonna be able to make magic with them!
4.- Its flexibility: Like our the EvoBoot Premium, our Glue Ons are the ONLY glue ons on the market that are designed to be extremely flexible in all directions. ¿What does that mean to your clients? In one word… COMFORT. But… ¿Why are they so fucking comfortable for the horse? Because…
- Being ultra-light they generate a minimum impact on the biomechanics and kinetics of the flight phase of the gait. And also being ultra-flexible they become relaxed when they have no pressure on them avoiding generating any pressure on the external and internal tissues of the hoof during the aforementioned phase.
- During the impact phase the next 2 features of its design let to the horse’s leg & hoof do its job:
- The rolled heels offers a smooth arrival just like a natural bare hoof would do.
- The medium grip design allows the boot to slide over the surface… just as a bare hoof does!
- During the weight bearing phase, the V-shape plus the Accordion and the arched sole permits the distortion of the hoof, the increase of the lower surface and the flattening of the sole.
- During the breakover phase:
- All the aforementioned flexible and elastic aspects of the Glue On returns to their relaxed position at the same speed as the different parts of the hoof do.
- The tip’s rolling ensures that the breakover point is where it should be, avoiding the creation of extra levers that can increase your client’s risk of injury.
- The reinforced tip its designed in a way so it does NOT affect the breakover point but gives an extra of durability to the part of the boot that receives more wear from the interaction with the ground.
How long do the Glue Ons last?
Our protections are made by the injection at high temperatures and high pressure of a special top quality type of plastic which makes them extremely tough and super resistant to wear.
Having that said, the correct answer is: it depends. There are a lot of situations that affect the lifespan of our protections like the type of terrain, the amount of riding, the medium speed, the weight of the rider, the way that the horse reaches the ground, the type of trimming, etc.
As is normal, glue On protections tend to last less than Premium ones, simply because the horse wears them 24/7. But even with this, with your professional touch you can make them last between 3 and 4 cycles of 2 months of use each (4-8 months in total) for a pleasure rider.
What is the weight of the Glue Ons?
Our glue ons have been designed to be ultralight and the reason is because diminishing the weight is the best way to reduce the strain and stress on your horse’s legs. So, this point has become an obsession for us.
Its obvious that the weight will vary depending on the size, BUT taking as a reference the size 2 (the most used of all) of the Glue On version weights 200gr or 7 ounces.
Do Glue Ons need any maintenance?
They’re manufactured to be easy, comfortable, tough & durable. This means that there’s NO need to do anything on them to keep them in good shape.
Can your Glue Ons deal with ANY terrain?
The simple answer is… Yes. They’re tough enough to deal with rocky terrain and have enough grip to deal with grass BUT as its normal, you might have slipping problems over wet grass, thin clay mud and/or ice. To avoid this to happen we recommend you to show why are you called a professional and attach ice or even jumping studs.
CAN GLUE ONS BE USED FOR SPORT RIDING?
The Glue ons are a perfect solution for sports and have been designed to perfectly fit the requirements of the top riders of different disciplines like dressage, jumping or endurance riding being the latter the ones that use them the most.
Glue ons offer to their horses the comfort, reliability, security and free movement that no regular boot of any brand (even ours) can give.
Because in some sports (like dressage or gallop) there’s still some debate on the use of glue ons, we recommend to advice to your horse owners to check the rules of their local riding association!
CAN GLUE ONS BE USED FOR REHABILITATION?
The Glue ons are a perfect solution for Rehabilitation also! Because:
- They offer 24/7 of complete protection and the best comfort without having to worry about bruisings or any other problem.
- They can be modified by you and transformed into a wedged, wide branched, wide toed, full rolled… glue on (if you don’t want to do it yourself, you can use one of our Ortho-Evoboots products which are mainly a shell with a standard modification that helps on specific injuries or problems).
But… for what problems can you use our Glue Ons for?
- Acute founder. They will help you control your clients pain while giving comfort and protection 24/7 during the firsts months of that condition.
- Chronic founder. In this condition, horses often have to live with chronic pain. That’s why the use of glue on (sometimes interspersed with the use of integral boots) greatly increases their quality of life thanks to the reduction or complete elimination of the sensation of pain. I guarantee that you and your horse owners will be able to corroborate this by looking at your horse’s face.
- Superficial or Deep digital Flexor Tendon injuries. In this condition we normally recommend our Ortho-Evo wedged in an attempt to diminish the tension over your client’s tendon and releasing the pain. Its important to keep the horse walking and to diminish the angle of the wedge slightly and weekly.
- Common extensor injuries. In this condition we normally recommend our Ortho-Evo wide toe in an attempt to diminish the tension over your client’s tendon and release the pain. Its important to keep the horse walking and understand that it will only work on a soft surface.
- Collateral ligaments injuries. In this condition we normally recommend our Ortho-Evo wide branch in an attempt to diminish the tension over your client’s ligament and reduce the pain. Its also important to keep the horse walking and understand that it will only work on a soft surface.
- Lower joints problems like arthrosis or navicular syndrome. In this condition we normally recommend our Ortho-Evo rolled tip or our Ortho-Evo full rolling in an attempt to shorten the breakover phase and diminish the tension over the joints while bringing back the center of mass or weight and reducing the pain. As in any condition… keep walking is a must!
WILL GLUE ONS STAY ON IN ANY CONDITIONS?
Yes. Glue ons are the most reliable solution in the boots market. They’ll simply stay on the hoof no matter what. So! If they don’t perform like described we recommend you to check the glue that you’re using or even check your gluing procedure.
HOW LONG CAN A HORSE WEAR A GLUE ON AT ONE TIME?
You can apply them for as long as 2 months per cycle. Normally with a horseshoe if you keep them for as long as 2 months, the hoof will become too long and will tend to surpass the shoe affecting the leg’s and hoof’s biomechanics and risking the horse to become injured. BUT this does NOT happen when using our Evo glue ons? Why? The plastic material is so dense and reduces so much the impact forces that the inner tissues of the hoof receives less stimulus and diminishes its growth rate. As you see… whats perfect for joints & comfort has also another side.
CAN I APPLY A GLUE ON BOOT ON A HOOF WITH A HEAVILY INFECTED WHITE LINE?
I personally recommend NOT to do so… because the glue itself, the hoof closing and the time of closure can make the situation worst. BUT if there’s no other option, then I would do it like this:
- Trim the hoof and make an antiseptic bath for at least 20 minutes each hoof.
- Apply an antiseptic liquid on the white line from underneath with the hoof in the air.
- Apply some antiseptic clay on the lateral sulcus of the forg.
- Proceed to glue on as normally
- Advice to the owner to keep the living surface clean, change the horse’s diet and give a supplement (normally rich in I, Se, Zn, & Cu)
We highly recommend you to act as a professional, play around with your tools and skills and heat adapt every Glue On to obtain the perfect result that you should always search for.
WHAT IF I'M SIZING THROUGH MEASUREMENTS AND THEY FALL BETWEEN 2 SIZES?
Then you should get a smaller size and adapt it by heat.
FAQ – GLUE ONS ADAPTATION
IS HEAT ADAPTATION A MUST?
The answer to this question is… it depends on the horses hooves shape. To be more clear, if the horse has:
- Standard hooves (short, compact, non flared walls…) and when sizing with a fit kit there are no air gaps, heat adaptation is NOT a must but we recommend it anyway because by using heat you’ll always improve the fit.
- Non standard hooves (flared walls, heavily underrun heels, heavily upright heels, or heavily crooked) then heat adaptation is required to adapt the boot to each situation and obtain the perfect fit that every horse deserves.
WHICH ARE THE MOST COMMON MISTAKES WHEN ADAPTING A GLUE ON?
Mistakes will only happen the first times that you play around with the Glue ons, mainly because you still do not know the material and you have to get used to it. Having that said the 2 most common mistakes are related with:
- The heat itself: The normal learning curve that I have observed is that: at the beginning and because of your fear on melting the boot you’ll under-heat it preventing you to obtain the adaptation required. Once you’ll loose your fear you’ll become more aggressive and have a tendency to go to the other extreme and over-heat it causing the appearance of air bubbles or even melting part of the material. As is normal, the correct path lies between both extremes.
- The lack of imagination: Because professionals are normally not used to work with a material with the possibilities offered by our Glue Ons, you have a tendency to underestimate what can really be done with them (cut, trim, roll, heat, fuse, patch, attach, drill…). So my personal recommendation on that matter is “loose the fear” simply try what you imagine and you’ll realize that with our Glue Ons can be done!
WHICH ARE THE MAIN HEAT ADAPTATIONS FOR YOUR GLUE ONS?
Try what you imagine and you’ll realize that with our Glue Ons you can do it! Things like making it wider, narrower, longer, shorter, lower or steeper, asymmetric… are super simple to do!

- Use pads with less than 6 mm of thickness (anything thicker will compromise the fit).
- Glue the pads to the boot’s shell so you make sure that they don’t move.
CAN I PUT STUDS ON THEM?
Using studs is very important when dealing with clay mud & ice. So… Yes, you can use:
- Any type of boot studs. Please apply them keeping in mind that they cannot extend past the sole!
- Jumping studs. The sole should be perforated and a special nut should be used.
As an alternative to studs and mainly for those horses that works on wet grass, you can modify the grooves on the sole with a Dremel or any other similar tool to increase its grip.
CAN I USE GLUE ONS FOR ORTHOPEDICS?
Yes, you as a professional can:
- Easily transform a standard Glue On into an orthopedic boot.
- Buy one of our Ortho-EvoBoot line of products which are different types of already modified shells:
- Ortho-Evo wedged for DDFT problems
- Ortho-Evo wide Toe for CET problems
- Ortho-Evo wide branch for colateral and/or suspensory ligament branches injuries.
Ortho-Evo full rolling for advanced arthrosis, laminitis and/or DDFT issues.

CAN I USE YOUR GLUE ON SOLUTIONS ON A SHOD HOOF?
Although we recommend to everyone to keep their horses barefoot, we understand that somebody will want to use our glue ons in combination with metal shoes to increase the shock absorption when working on hard surfaces. Although they’re not designed for that purpose and we cannot guarantee it’s performance you could use them if you heat adapt them first.

FAQ – Features, Design, Durability, Performance…
Why should I use Ortho-Evos for the lame/injured horses under my care as a PRO?
Ortho-Evos are the FIRST and ONLY orthopedic solutions for barefoot horses in the market! So Evohorse SL is a real pioneer on this field.
Normally when a barefoot horse has a problem the vet comes in and the use of a metal horseshoe is advised which a lot of times puts you out of the game (unless you are a farrier). I’m sure that this has happened to you more than once… because this was quite normal in the past and happened also to me… BUT NOT ANYMORE! With our Ortho-Evos those barefoot horses that are in problems can have a better and more friendly solution than metal horseshoes with all its features or advantages!
Before entering to the more specific reasons, let me clarify 2 things about Ortho-Evos:
- Because they’re an orthopedic solution they should ONLY be applied by you, a real professional, and if possible, teamed with a vet (teaming is always better for everyone).
- They can be used as a Boot or as a Glue On, depending on the injury/problem and on your rehabilitation objective.
Having that said let me explain you why you should be an advocate of our Ortho-Evos when some of your clients has a problem/injury.
1.- Its singularity: Like I said before, our Ortho-Evos are the FIRST and ONLY orthopedic solutions for barefoot horses in the market! So… you, as a professional don’t have a lot of different possibilities to choose…
- Go back to metal shoes (what can out yourself ou of the game)
- Create them by yourself from our EvoBoot Premium or our Standard Glue Ons (which means time)
- Or directly choose the best option for each case from our Ortho-Evo line of products.
2.- Its variety: In our Ortho-Evos line of products you’ll find the type of orthopedy that you’ll need to help your clients to have a faster, safer and better recovery:
- wedged (for DFT problems)
- wide toe (for DET problems)
- wide branch (for joint and collateral ligaments problems)
- rolled tip & full rolling (for founder, joint issues, DDFT injuries…).
3.- Its caché: Using our Ortho-Evos is revolutionary… so your caché will go up instantaniously which means that you’ll be better valued in your working area and you’ll be able to charge more or choose your clients.
4.- Its material: Like the other hoof solutions that we design and manufacture under Evohorse brand, Ortho-Evos are made by the injection at high temperatures and high pressure of a special type of plastic which makes them extremely tough and super resistant to wear. For you, as a professional means that you’ll help your client, give comfort, speed up its rehabilitation and help its owner to save money using a tough material that has the potential to last for the entire rehabilitation process.
5.- Its adaptability, versatility and re-usability: Because…
- They’re also made of a thermoplastic material, they can be easily and fast adapted with the help of a heat gun and/or a grinder to ANY hoof shape. So… you’ll be able to help any horse no matter what!
- They’re are a highly precision machined shell by our latest generation numerical controlled lathe, they can be used as a Boot and/or as a Glue On. So… maybe your client’s injury will be ok with an orthopedic boot, or on the contrary, it will benefit from its use as Glue on (24/7 comfort & protection) or achieve optimal rehabilitation if you start using it as a glue On and end up using it as a boot. As you can see they offer you as a professional a complete range of possibilities to make you able to find the best solution for your client! This simply supposes a new era for barefoot horses…
- When using it as a Glue On If everything is done properly they can be normally re-used between 3 and 4 times having in mind that the protection are normally on the horse’s hooves a maximum of 2 months each time! Meaning that the same Glue On can last 4 to 8 months. ..
- You as a professional means that have a better control of the process.
- Your client’s owner means less costs and more tranquility.
- Your horse as a client means more months of complete comfort (if is hypersensitive) & or less rehabilitation time (if it’s injured).
6.- Its flexibility: Like our the EvoBoot Premium and our Standard Glue Ons, the Ortho-Evos has been designed to be extremely flexible in all directions. ¿What does that mean to your clients? In one word… COMFORT. But… ¿Why is so comfortable for the horse? Thanks to the different features of its design that works as a whole it has the ability to distort along with the hoof letting all the tissues (hard and soft) work as nature intended to without limitations or restrictions.
Let me explain you how it’s design works
- Our products ensure a a minimum detrimental impact to the leg’s biomechanics during the flying phase of the gait thanks to its light weight and its flexibility that permits it to stay totally relaxed when there’s no weight on it.
- During the impact phase our solutions let the leg & hoof do its job for the next 3 reasons of its design:
- The rolled heels offers a smooth arrival just like a natural bare hoof would do.
- The medium grip design allows the boot to slide over the surface… just as I explained before that a bare hoof does!
- And if you’re using it as a boot… The thick lower band of the bulb shield blocks the unwanted movements that can happen between the hoof and the inside surface of the boot during the deceleration, reducing the incidence of injury and giving the horse a safe footing. (this is super important for the free movement of a horse in boots).
- During the weight bearing phase, our products let the hoof distort as it should, again thanks to its unique design:
- The Elastostop direct stretches enough to allow the expansion of the lateral cartilages and the digital cushion, which is crucial for the blood flow and the management of the released energy.
- The V-shape of the Bulb Shield and the Sole plus the Accordion and the arched sole permits the expansion of the lower surface and the flattening of the sole.
- The lower angle of the boot’s wall, its higher profile and the frontal attachment of the elastostop direct through the pivot allows the boot to follow the collapsing movement of the coronary band.
- All our solutions behaves like hell during the breakover phase thanks to:
What should I expect about it’s durability?
Our protections are made by the injection at high temperatures and high pressure of a special top quality type of plastic which makes them extremely tough and super resistant to wear.
Having that said, the correct answer is: it depends. There are a lot of situations that affect the lifespan of our protections like the type of terrain, the amount of riding, the medium speed, the weight of the rider, the way that the horse reaches the ground, the type of trimming, etc.
Please, understand this:
- Because this an orthopedic solution the horse will be mainly walking on soft or flat and hard surfaces, depending on the injury and the type of orthopedics that is being used. Which tends to enlarge its durability.
- Its durability will vary if you’re using it as a Boot or as a Glue On. Normally you can assume to be able to use the solution for longer as a boot than as Glue On. Mainly because as a Glue On the horse its using it 24/7.
AS a golden rule, and you as a professional can expect, when dealing with an acute injury, the Ortho-Evos to last at least all the rehabilitation process.
Do the horse owners have to do any maintenance on the Ortho-Evos that I have applied to their horse?
If they’re used as a…
- Boot (like our Premium), then you should recommend your horse owners to clean them with water after its use and let them dry in a shaded place. Also, to reduce the risks of bacterial build up on the neoprene of the second skin you could also recommend them to simply apply talkistine between uses.
- Glue On (like our standard glue ons) there will be NO need to do anything, permitting your horse owners to focus 100% on their horse’s progress and the rehabilitation protocol that you have planned for them.
In which surfaces should I use your Ortho-Evos on?
As you might imagine, the answer is… depending on the type of problem that your client has that will basically determine which type of orthopedics he can benefit from… As you also might imagine…
- There are some orthopedics like the wide toe and the wide branch that ONLY works on soft/deep surfaces because what they really do is prevent one particular area of the hoof to sink moving the pressure and stress to its opposite tissue.
- There are other orthopedics, like the wedge that works better on hard flat surfaces, because the intention underneath its use is to reduce the tension on the flexor apparatus and as its obvious, using them on deep/soft surfaces can worsen the situation.
- And finally, there are others like the rolled tip or the full rolling that although they tend to work better on hard & flat surfaces this is not a must and can perform well on any surface.
We want to emphasize that me personally and Evohorse as a brand have total confidence in your knowledge and ability as professional and will always advise to our clients that you, should be the one using this type of solutions.
FOR WHICH PROBLEMS CAN I USE YOUR ORTHO-EVOS?
They’re a perfect solution to speed up or improve your client’s acute injury rehabilitation or even improve your client’s comfort when chronic problems appear! But… for what problems do we usually recommend you to use our Ortho-Evos for?
- Acute founder. As you know, controlling the pain and giving comfort and protection 24/7 during the firsts months of that condition is crucial and will determine the future quality of life of your client. That’s why we recommend you to use our Ortho-Evo rolled Tip as a glue on, keep tracking the situation with the help of monthly X-rays and modify the daily lifestyle (diet included) to obtain the best results.
- Chronic founder. In this condition, horses often have to live with chronic pain. That’s why the use of Ortho-Evos rolled tip as a glue on (sometimes interspersed with the use of integral boots, of your preferred brand) greatly increases their quality of life thanks to the reduction or complete elimination of the sensation of pain 24/7. I guarantee that you will be able to corroborate this by looking at your client’s face.
But… Why I‘m recommending you to interspread the use of glue ons with integral boots? Well… things happens and an abscess might appear and you want to be able to treat it and keep a track on it, or maybe the horn quality gets worst and you want to give it a break… You’re the professional in front of a horse so… you’re the one in charge!
- Superficial or Deep digital Flexor Tendon injuries. In this condition we normally recommend to use our Ortho-Evo wedged as a boot when walking (if the horse is in stall) or as a Glue On (if the horse is in a paddock where it can move 24/7 over a hard and flat surface) in an attempt to diminish the tension over the horse’s tendon and diminish the sensation of pain. I find very important to:
- keep the horse walking
- and to diminish the angle of the wedge slightly and weekly.
- Common extensor injuries. In this condition we normally recommend our Ortho-Evo wide toe as a boot when walking on an arena (if the horse is in stall or a flat and hard paddock) or as a Glue On (if the horse is in a paddock where it can move 24/7 over a deep & soft surface) in an attempt to diminish the tension over the horse’s tendon and diminish the pain. For me its important to:
- keep the horse walking
- and make sure that the horse owner understands that should only work on a soft surface.
- Collateral ligaments injuries. In this condition we normally recommend our Ortho-Evo wide branch as a boot when walking on an arena (if the horse is in stall or a flat and hard paddock) or as a Glue On (if the horse is in a paddock where it can move 24/7 over a deep & soft surface) in an attempt to diminish the tension over the horse’s ligament and diminish its pain. Its also very important for me to:
- keep the horse walking
- and make sure that the horse owner understands that should only work on a soft surface.
- Lower joints problems like arthrosis or navicular syndrome. In this condition we normally recommend our Ortho-Evo rolled tip or our Ortho-Evo full rolling as a:
- Boot when walking or working (if the horse is in a stall)
- Or as a Glue On (if the horse is in a paddock where it can move freely)
In an attempt to shorten the breakover phase and diminish the tension over the joints while bringing back the center of mass or weight and reducing the pain. As in any other condition… keep walking is a must!
FOR HOW LONG CAN I LEAVE YOUR ORTHO-EVO SOLUTIONS ON A HORSE AT ONE TIME?
It depends if you’re using them as a Boot or as a Glue On. So… If you’re using it as a:
- Boot, the horse should ONLY wear it while is “working”. Using a sport boot as a 24/7 solution can cause breaks, loses and bruisings… so it’s a thing that I do not recommend.
- Glue on, the horse can wear them for as long as 2 months per cycle. After this time should be removed and if you think that is of need, should be re-used again (remember that you can re-use the same material between 3 and 4 times). BUT please notice that because the horse might be under rehabilitation, we recommend to take them out, trim and put them back on once a month for the first 3 months of the process.
FAQ – ORTHO-EVO Sizing
HOW DO I FIND THE CORRECT SIZE FOR MY CLIENTS?
Using a fit Kit is a no brainer way to obtain the correct size in just seconds.
If they’re standard you’ll be ok (but we even recommend you to heat adapt because you’ll always be able to get a better fit) And if they’re non standard, then you should act as a professional, play around with your tools and skills and do the perfect adaptation that only you can do.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY MEASUREMENTS FALLS BETWEEN 2 SIZES?
You should get a smaller size and adapt it by heat.
FAQ – ORTHO-EVO ADAPTATION
IS HEAT ADAPTATION A MUST FOR YOUR ORTHO-EVO SOLUTIONS?
The answer to this question is… it depends on the horses hooves shape. To be more clear, if the horse has:
- Standard hooves (short, compact, non flared walls…) and falls into the measurements of a specific size in our sizing chart, then you will be able to do an out of the box fit. So in this case no, heat adaptation is NOT a must BUT because you’re a professional, we recommend you to still heat adapt them because you’ll always be able to get a better fit.
- Non standard hooves (flared walls, heavily underrun heels, heavily upright heels, or heavily crooked) then heat adaptation is required to adapt the protection to each situation.
Why obtaining a perfect fit on Ortho-Evos is so important?
You should be aware that anything that you apply to the horse’s hoof is gonna have an impact. So you should try to diminish the negative aspects and promote the positive. But…
Which are the positive aspects about using an ortho-evo?
The most important one is offer comfort & protection against concussion and abrasion to those hooves that are in need and also release the tension over the injured tissues to promote its fast recovery.
Which are the negative effects that a bad fit can produce?
- Prevent the horse from recovering as expected
- Worsen the situation due to the presence of undesirable levers.
- Make it more expensive to your horse owners do to breaks or loses

Our Customers Opinion
The EVO BOOT is an extremely intelligent hoofboot promoting the hoof mechanism like no other model. You may have read this already a couple of times before but this boot is really doing it. It’s not only supporting the hoof sole – it’s flexibel horizontally as well as vertically. Just like the heels of a barefoot horse.
