Evoboot Premium 2021
¿Are you spending lots of money because the current boot that you’re using wears off too fast or don’t have exchangeable parts and when something breaks you have to buy a whole boot? Save money while enhancing your horse’s comfort with the most ergonomic boot on the market!
FAQ – Features, Design, Durability, Performance…
Why should I buy the EvoBoot Premium instead any other boot of the market?
Our EvoBoot Premium are light years in front of any other boot of the market due to the next 4 BIG features:
1.- Its constant updates: In Evohorse Sl, we constantly collect all the things that can be improved because new ideas, experiences, knowledge or materials appears… and we release an update every few years that can be also applied to its older versions.
2.- Its material: The boot is made by the injection at high temperatures and high pressure of a special type of plastic which makes it extremely tough and super resistant to wear. For you, as an owner means that its heavily durable!
3.- Its composition: Because the boot is made of different elements that interacts one to each other through screws it gives you the opportunity to:
- Change the relationship between them to easily find the best configuration for your horse.
- Change any damaged part without any previous knowledge, saving you money!
4.- Its flexibility: The EvoBoot Premium is the ONLY boot on the market that is designed to be extremely flexible in all directions. ¿What does that mean to your horse? In one word… COMFORT. But… ¿Why is so comfortable for your horse? Thanks to the different features of its design that works as a whole it has the ability to distort along with the hoof letting all the tissues (hard and soft) work as nature intended to without limitations or restrictions.
To truly understand why the EvoBoot Premium is light years away from any other boot you have to know how the different parts and tissues of the hoof behaves during the different phases of the gait. Let me break it down part by part for you:
- During the flying phase, the lower leg begins flexed and extends out. At the end of this phase, when the extension is maximum and therefore the leg is fully stretched forward, the proprioceptive apparatus makes the necessary readjustments to ensure that the hoof reaches safely the ground.
What does your horse’s leg needs from a boot (any) during this phase? lightness and relaxation. I can assure you that our EvoBoot Premium has a minimum detrimental impact thanks to its light weight and its closing system that when there’s no weight on it stays totally relaxed.
- At this point, the heels reaches the ground (at the same time or separately) and the impact phase begins. Because to the impact and interaction with the ground, the hoof decelerates abruptly, the tip rushes rapidly towards the ground leaving the hoof flat and generating a small sliding effect over the surface.
How our EvoBoot Premium let your horse’s leg & hoof do its job during this phase? For 3 reasons of its design:
+ The rolled heels offers a smooth arrival just like a natural bare hoof would do.
+ The thick lower band of the bulb shield blocks the unwanted movements that can happen between the hoof and the inside surface of the boot during the deceleration, reducing the incidence of injury and giving the horse a safe footing. (this is super important for the free movement of a horse in boots).
+ The medium grip design allows the boot to slide over the surface… just as I explained before that a bare hoof does!
- Once the impact phase is finished, the weight bearing phase begins. In this phase there are 2 important concepts to understand. The first is that the downward force of the weight generates a reactive force of the ground in an upward direction and the tissues of the hoof are compressed between both forces. And the second is that the center of this force moves forward as the phase progresses. This 2 particularities generates the next distortions:
- The lateral cartilages and the digital cushion which conforms the bulbs region, expands to the sides and backwards increasing its perimeter.
- The frog expands pushing the heels outward while the sole looses it’s arch getting close to the ground. Generating the collapse on itself of the coronary band reducing the angle of the wall and increasing the lower surface of the hoof thanks to the stretching of the white line.
How our EvoBoot Premium let your horse’s hoof distort as it should? Thanks to its unique design:
+ The Elastostop direct stretches enough to allow the expansion of the lateral cartilages and the digital cushion, which is crucial for the blood flow and the management of the released energy.
+ The V-shape of the Bulb Shield and the Sole plus the Accordion and the arched sole permits the expansion of the lower surface and the flattening of the sole.
+ The lower angle of the boot’s wall, its higher profile and the frontal attachment of the elastostop direct through the pivot allows the boot to follow the collapsing movement of the coronary band.
- When the weight bearing phase ends, the horse’s body advances the charging leg and the breakover phase begins. During this phase, the hoof rolls over its toe removing the compression forces and returning all the tissues to their resting or relaxed position while part of the energy is transformed into a pushing force generating the forward movement of the horse.
How our EvoBoot Premium let your horse’s hoof distort as it should? Thanks to its unique design:
+ All the flexible and elastic aspects of the hoof (the Elastostop direct, the V-shape of the Bulb Shield and the Sole, the Accordion, the arched sole and the wall) returns to their relaxed position at the same speed as the different parts of the hoof do.
+ The tip’s rolling ensures that the breakover point is where it should be, avoiding the creation of extra levers that can increase your horse’s risk of injury.
+ The reinforced tip its designed in a way so it does NOT affect the breakover point but gives an extra of durability to the part of the boot that receives more wear from the interaction with the ground.
I invite you to compare the movement of the same horse while wearing different boots in the same surface and at the same day. I 100% guarantee you that you’ll be amazed on how comfortable and free it moves when is wearing our EvoBoot Premium…
How long do the Premiums last?
Our protections are made by the injection at high temperatures and high pressure of a special top quality type of plastic which makes them extremely tough and super resistant to wear.
Having that said, the correct answer is: it depends. There are a lot of situations that affect the lifespan of our protections like the type of terrain, the amount of riding, the medium speed, the weight of the rider, the way that the horse reaches the ground, the type of trimming, etc.
If we speak in kilometers then we can say around 1.200 Km easily and if we speak in months, we can say that for a weekend pleasure riding they can last more than one year and a half, but as we said before, in some cases they last less, however we have many happy trail riders who have had their boots up and running for much longer.
What is the weight of the EvoBoot Premium?
The EvoBoot Premium has been designed to be ultralight and the reason is because diminishing the weight is the best way to reduce the strain and stress on your horse’s legs. So, this point has become an obsession for us.
Its obvious that the weight will vary depending on the size, BUT taking as a reference the size 2 (the most used of all) of the Premium version weights 300gr or 10’5 ounces.
Do Premiums need any maintenance?
The EvoBoot Premium are manufactured to be durable. This means that they only needs to be cleaned with water after having been used and let them dry in a shaded place. Also, if you want to reduce the risks of bacterial build up on the neoprene of the second skin you could simply apply talkistine between uses.
How do Premiums deal with things like... bulbs rubbing, bulbs overheating or water, mud and sand trapping?
EvoBoot Premium have been designed to be able to deal with those daily situations. But let me explain this one by one.
- Bulbs rubbing: Its was already very strange to happen but with the 2021 upgrade of our Premium Boot, we have made it even more difficult! If it happens, its normally due to:
- A bad bulb shields size and/or a bad adjustment.
- A too abrupt use that has not allowed the skin to get used to a new boot
- Bulbs Overheating: All the Premium Boot versions comes with a perforated second skin so we make sure that the air ventilation and breathability is optimal. So its not a thing that you should worry about!
- Water, mud and sand trapping: Those are a handicap for any low profile boots of the market.
- Water is not a difficulty because the rear part of the boot is opened, so the water can go out without problem.
- Mud can get trapped on the Elastostop Direct and should be cleaned with water prior taking them off. But it does not get its way between the second skin and the bulbs region thanks to the design that we have implemented since the 2021 upgrade in which the neoprene goes further up and has a better attachment and cover of the bulbs than older versions did.
- Like with mud, sand does not get its way between the second skin and the bulbs region thanks to the design that we have implemented since the 2021 upgrade in which the neoprene goes further up and has a better attachment and cover of the bulbs than older versions did.
Can the Premiums deal with ANY terrain?
The simple answer is… Yes. They’re tough enough to deal with rocky terrain and have enough grip to deal with grass BUT as its normal, you might have slipping problems over wet grass, thin clay mud and/or ice. To avoid this to happen we recommend to contact a professional and attach ice or even jumping studs.
WILL THE BOOTS STAY ON IN ANY CONDITIONS?
If they are well adapted and fitted they stay on in almost every conditions. The most difficult condition for any boot and/or even for a nailed shoe too is deep mud. If you are riding through extreme mud over a period of time, you will want to consider removing the boots and riding your horse barefoot.
HOW LONG CAN MY HORSE WEAR THE PREMIUMS AT ONE TIME?
Our EvoBoots Premium come with an antirubbing material and a transpirating system in it’s bulb shield that makes them perfect for being worn over extended periods of time. But, you have to keep in mind that:
- It’s a sport boot and not a therapeutic boot. So we recommend not to leave your horse unattended while wearing the boots because it can play with them and break it accidentally. Failure to take precautions may void the warranty.
- As always with any new material, we recommend to let your horse’s skin adapt to the boots and make a gradual ‘break-in’, starting with 30 minutes and increasing from there, while monitoring the comfort of the horse.
FAQ – EVO BOOT Sizing
HOW DO I FIND THE CORRECT SIZE FOR MY HORSE?
The best way to obtain a perfect fit is to find a local trimmer with a Fit Kit and/or ask one of our great distributors. We give you some help on that aspect in our section “Find your Pro” and “Find your Reseller”
If that option is not possible or you want to do it yourself, you should:
- Measure the length and width of each hoof.
- Look at our sizing chart.
- Determine if your horses hooves are Standard or Non standard. If they’re standard with non or with a very easily adjustment you’ll be ready to go, BUT if they’re non standard, then a professional work is advised.
You will find more information in the EvoBoot Premium description Section.
WHEN SHOULD I MEASURE MY HORSE’S HOOVES, JUST BEFORE OR JUST AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN TRIMMED?
For the welfare of your horse we recommend you to always maintain you’re horse’s hooves in the optimum state and don’t let them overgrow. If you have your horse’s hooves trimmed in a regular schedule and they «never get long», you should measure the hooves 4-6 days after the last trim.
WHAT SHOULD I CHECK FIRST WHEN SIZING? THE WIDTH OR THE LENGTH?
Check the width first and make sure that the fit is as tight as possible. When you have done this, then check the length. If:
- The length is ok or too long you’re in the correct size.
- The length is too short, then we recommend you to find a Pro that adapts it to your situation making it longer with heat adaptation or taking a bigger size and making it narrower with heat adaptation.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY MEASUREMENTS FALLS BETWEEN 2 SIZES?
When this happens, you have 2 options:
- Option 1: Let your hoofcare professional get a smaller size and adapt it by heat.
- Option 2: If option 1 is not possible, then choose the larger size.
FAQ – ADJUSTING AND ADAPTATION OF THE EVOBOOT PREMIUM
IS HEAT ADAPTATION A MUST?
The answer to this question is… it depends on your horses hooves shape. To be more clear, if your horse has:
- Standard hooves (short, compact, non flared walls…) and falls into the measurements of a specific size in our sizing chart, then you will be able to do an out of the box fit (with or without some minor adjustments). So in this case no, heat adaptation is NOT a must.
- Non standard hooves (flared walls, heavily underrun heels, heavily upright heels, or heavily crooked) then heat adaptation is required to adapt the boot to each situation.
HOW EASY CAN EVO BOOTS BE ADJUSTED?
The Evo Boot Premium has been designed to be easy! There are basically 3 things that you should have in mind when adjusting it:
- Move the position of the bulb shield until the inner side of its lower strap makes direct contact to the heel region.
- Move the position of the Elastostop direct until its ring becomes round or slightly horizontally oval when the system is locked.
- Check the Bulb Shield’s upper rim from a rear view and make sure that it surpasses the bulb’s curve and it does not reach the interphalangeal joint and curves inwards. Most of the time the process ends up here BUT depending on the shape of your horse’s hooves it can happen that the upper rim:
- Does NOT surpass the bulb’s curve. If that happens, then bring the Bulb Shield one hole back and try it again. If this does not solve the problem, means that the BS its too small for your horse and that you should increase its size by 2.
- Reaches the interphalangeal joint and curves slightly inwards. If that happens, simply bring the pivot to the first hole of the lowest raw to pull it down and try it again. If this does not solve the problem, means that the BS is too big fir your horse and that you should diminish its size by 1.
CAN I USE EVO BOOTS ON BOTH FRONT AND REAR HOOVES?
Of course! Our sizing is designed to fit wider hooves (normally the fronts) as well as narrower hooves too (normally the hinds). We recommend that you completely boot your horse for long rides. Riding a horse with some sort of tenderness will create a miriade of physical and mental issues.
WHICH IS THE MOST COMMON MISTAKE WHEN ADJUSTING THE BOOT?
Assuming sizing is done correctly, the most typical mistake users make is leaving the bulb shield long to make the fitting super easy and over-tightening the direct elastostop trusting that it will keep the boot in place. Let me tell you that the boot is not intended to work in this manner and doing so will cause looses and / or breaks.
Let me explain you why is NOT a good idea to do so! In this configuration, when the hoof reaches the ground, because there’s a gap between the heels and the BS lower strap, the hoof will move and accelerate inside the boot while covers this free space impacting heavily on the BS lower strap provoking its lost or even breaking the lateral holes of the shell.
MY HORSE HAS HIGH/UNDERRUN HEELS. AM I STILL ABLE TO USE EVO BOOTS?
EVO BOOTS are highly adaptable! You can go for the heat adaptation and/or change the bulb shield and the Elastostop position to obtain a perfect fit! But if you have a «difficult hooved horse», phone a local trimmer and they will totally adapt it straight away.
MY EVO BOOTS TWISTS, WHAT CAN I DO?
- First check that the sizing, the adjustment and the fitting is correct. Because most of the time the problem has its origin there.
- If all is ok and the boot keeps on twisting, then I can assure you that your horse, due to its conformation is a “boot twister”. Don’t worry! With Evos there’s still some things that you can do about but we highly recommend to call a Professional. If you do not have anybody around check our user’s manual for professionals and our videos.
Why obtaining a perfect fit is so important?
You should be aware that anything that you apply to the horse’s hoof is gonna have an impact. So you should try to diminish the negative aspects and promote the positive. But…
- Which are the positive aspects about using a boot? The most important one is offer protection against concussion and abbrassion to those hooves that are in need.
- Which are the negative aspects? Depending on their design and fit they can…
- Alter the kinetics and biomechanics of the leg affecting directly to its comfort, performance & risk of injury.
- Alter the function of the inner tissues promoting atrophies or injuries.
- Generate extra levers that puts undesirable stress on certain tissues of the leg increasing the risk of injury.
- Create uncontrolled movements between the hoof and the boot that will directly affects how safely the horse moves, also increasing the risk of injury.
FAQ – EXTRAS ( Pads, Studs, Orthopedics…)
CAN MY CLIENTS USE PADS IN THEM?
Yes BUT if you do, please:
- Use pads with less than 6 mm of thickness (anything thicker will compromise the fit).
- Glue the pads to the boot’s shell so you make sure that they don’t move compromising your horse’s comfort.
CAN I WEAR STUDS WITH MY PREMIUMS?
Yes, you can use:
- Any type of boot studs. Please apply them keeping in mind that they cannot extend past the sole!
- Jumping studs. The sole should be perforated by a professional and special nut should be used.
As an alternative to studs and for the same reason, increase the boot’s grip, you can modify the grooves on the sole with a Dremel or any other similar tool.
Whatever you decide to do, please ride with care on treacherous terrain.
CAN I USE PREMIUMS FOR ORTHOPEDICS?
Yes, but we recommend you to contact a professional for that purpose.
FAQ – Others
HOW DO I FIND MY CLOSEST PROFESSIONAL OR RESELLER?
Please have a look at our Sections “Find your Professional” and/or “Find your Reseller”.
DO THE BOOTS STRETCH AFTER A FEW USES?
With repetitive use, the EvoBoot Premium will stretch a bit and you will notice that it will slowly become adapted to your horse’s hoof shape. This means that:
- They might be tight to fit for the first 2 or 3 uses but after that, «a child» will be able to apply them.
- Perhaps some minor adjustments should be done
CAN I USE EVO BOOTS IF MY HORSE IS WEARING SHOES?
Some people uses boots in combination with metal shoes to increase shock absorption when working on hard surfaces. But our EvoBoot Premium is a sport boot and is not designed for that purpose, so we cannot guarantee it’s performance and we do not recommend it´s use it in that way.
WHAT TO DO IF SOME PART BREAKS OR A SCREW GETS BLOCKED?
You should contact the dealer who sold you the boots. If it’s a warranty case, we will replace the entire boot, if it’s not he/she will invite you to buy the specific spare parts kit and show you how to replace it.
THE SCREWS KEEP COMING LOOSE. HOW CAN I FIX IT?
During the production of our EvoBoots Premium we avoid applying any type of glue in the screws to give you the opportunity of changing the screws position and make a proper and perfect adaptation. When riding, there’s a lot of concussion and the screws can get loose. To fix it you just need to apply Loctite® 243 (it can be purchased in any hardware store) to the screws before securing them in the preferred position.
WHAT CAN I DO IF I HAVE LOST A SCREW?
All screws are replaceable! You just need to replace it with a new one from your «spare parts bag» and apply Loctite® 243 to secure them. If you run out of screws you can buy a new «screw set bag or a new spare parts bag» from your dealer.
I BOUGHT A SPARE PARTS KIT TO REPLACE A DAMAGED PART AND I DON’T KNOW HOW TO DO IT. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Its very strange that this will happen to you because replacing a broken or worn out part is extremely easy! But if you really don’t know how, check our manuals and/or our How to videos. If you have tried it and you still have troubles, just phone a local experienced trimmer, and he/she will replace it in few seconds.
CAN I DO MY OWN REPAIRS ON MY PREMIUMS?
Every component of the EvoBoot Premium can be very easily replaced. The only tool required is a 2,5mm hex key that comes in your spare parts bag and some Loctite 243 to glue on the screws after the process.
Evoboot Glue Ons
Give comfort and relief to your foundered horse 24/7 or compete at full potential without worries of getting rubbed with our adaptable, super durable and easy to apply Glue ons!
FAQ – Features, Design, Durability, Performance…
Why should I use Glue Ons instead any other glue ons of the market?
Glue Ons on general are the most reliable and comfortable solution in the boots market. As you might know, its main issues are:
- The price of its application (acrylic glue is expensive and the professional’s fee tends to be higher than when is “only” trimming).
- The side effects that can appear (less stimulation and microorganism grow) when they’re applied in long term.
Like coins, everything in life have 3 sides. Because we know that, in EvoHorse we do our best to diminish the negative side of the glue ons application. Let me show you why our Glue ons are simply different from the rest:
1.- Its material: Like the Premiums, our Glue Ons are made by the injection at high temperatures and high pressure of a special type of plastic which makes them extremely tough and super resistant to wear. For you, as an owner means that you’ll have a happy and comfortable horse for a longer time while you save money!
2.- Its recyclability: In Evohorse Sl, we try to give to our products the longest life possible and with our Glue Ons we have brought that to a new level. Thanks to the characteristics of the material that we use to produce them, after they have been used, you (if you have the skills) or your professional of confidence can:
- Clean the inside with a wire wheel headed drill
- Store it for as long as you want
- Re-heat it to adapt it to the same horse or to another horse (if necessary)
- Glue it again.
If everything is done properly (that’s why we recommend the professional application when dealing with glue ons) this cycle can be repeated between 3 and 4 times having in mind that the protection have been applied for 2 months each cycle! Meaning that the same Glue On can last 4 to 8 months. Contributing to:
- You as an owner to reduce your costs and earn some months of tranquility.
- Your horse few months of complete comfort (if is hypersensitive), less rehabilitation time (if is injured) and better performance (if you’re competing).
3.- Its adaptability: Because our glue Ons are made of a thermoplastic material, they can be easily and fast adapted with the help of a heat gun and/or a grinder to ANY hoof shape, situation and/or pathology.
For you as an owner means that no matter how ugly your horse’s hooves are … you will be able to help him offering full protection and comfort 24/7.
4.- Its flexibility: Like our the EvoBoot Premium, our Glue Ons are the ONLY glue ons on the market that are designed to be extremely flexible in all directions.
To truly understand why our Glue Ons are so comfortable for your horse, you have to know how the different parts and tissues of the hoof behaves during the different phases of the gait.
What does your horse’s leg needs from a glue on (any) during this phase? lightness and relaxation. I can assure you that our Glue Ons has a minimum detrimental impact thanks to its ultra-light weight and its flexible design that when there’s no weight on it stays totally relaxed.
- At this point, the heels reaches the ground (at the same time or separately) and the impact phase begins. Because to the impact and interaction with the ground, the hoof decelerates abruptly, the tip rushes rapidly towards the ground leaving the hoof flat and generating a small sliding effect over the surface.
How our Glue Ons let your horse’s leg & hoof do its job during this phase? For the next 2 reasons of its design:
+ The rolled heels offers a smooth arrival just like a natural bare hoof would do.
Thanks to the V-shape of Sole plus the Accordion and the arched sole that permits the expansion of the lower surface and the flattening of the sole, our Glue Ons let your horse’s hoof distort as it should.
How our Glue Ons let your horse’s hoof break over as it should? Thanks to its unique design:
+ All the flexible and elastic aspects of the Glue On (the V-shape of the Sole, the Accordion, the arched sole and the wall) returns to their relaxed position at the same speed as the different parts of the hoof do.
I invite you to compare the movement of the same horse while wearing different Glue Ons in the same surface and at the same day. I 100% guarantee you that you’ll be amazed on how comfortable and free it moves when is wearing our protections…
How long do the Glue Ons last?
Our protections are made by the injection at high temperatures and high pressure of a special top quality type of plastic which makes them extremely tough and super resistant to wear.
Having that said, the correct answer is: it depends. There are a lot of situations that affect the lifespan of our protections like the type of terrain, the amount of riding, the medium speed, the weight of the rider, the way that the horse reaches the ground, the type of trimming, etc.
As is normal, glue On protections tend to last less than Premium ones, simply because the horse wears them 24/7. But even with this, with the help of a professional (to ensure that everything is correct) you can make them last between 3 and 4 cycles of 2 months of use each (4-8 months in total) if you’re a pleasure rider (if you give them another use, they might last more or less but normally within the previously mentioned range).
Do Glue Ons need any maintenance?
They’re manufactured to be easy, comfortable, tough & durable. This means that there’s NO need to do anything on them to keep them in good shape.
Can your Glue Ons deal with ANY terrain?
The simple answer is… Yes. They’re tough enough to deal with rocky terrain and have enough grip to deal with grass BUT as its normal, you might have slipping problems over wet grass, thin clay mud and/or ice. To avoid this to happen we recommend you to ask your professional of confidence to attach ice or even jumping studs.
CAN GLUE ONS BE USED FOR SPORT RIDING?
The Glue ons are a perfect solution for sports and have been designed to perfectly fit the requirements of the top riders of different disciplines like dressage, jumping or endurance riding being the latter the ones that use them the most.
Glue ons offer to your horse the comfort, reliability, security and free movement that no regular boot of any brand (even ours) can give.
But please! Because in some sports (like dressage or gallop) there’s still some debate on the use of glue ons, we recommend you to check the rules of the competition that you’re facing.
MY HORSE HAS BEEN INJURED… CAN GLUE ONS BE USED FOR ITS REHABILITATION?
The Glue ons are a perfect solution to speed up or improve your horse’s acute injury rehabilitation or even improve you’re horse’s comfort when chronic problems appear! They offer 24/7 of complete protection and the best comfort without having to worry about bruisings or any other problem. But… for what problems do we usually recommend to call a professional and use our Glue Ons for?
- Acute founder. Controlling the pain and giving comfort and protection 24/7 during the firsts months of that condition is crucial and will determine the future quality of life of your horse.
- Chronic founder. In this condition, horses often have to live with chronic pain. That’s why the use of glue on (sometimes interspersed with the use of integral boots) greatly increases their quality of life thanks to the reduction or complete elimination of the sensation of pain. I guarantee that you will be able to corroborate this by looking at your horse’s face.
- Superficial or Deep digital Flexor Tendon injuries. In this condition we normally recommend our Ortho-Evo wedged in an attempt to diminish the tension over your horse’s tendon and releasing the pain. Its important to keep the horse walking and to diminish the angle of the wedge slightly and weekly.
- Common extensor injuries. In this condition we normally recommend our Ortho-Evo wide toe in an attempt to diminish the tension over your horse’s tendon and release the pain. Its important to keep the horse walking and understand that it will only work on a soft surface.
- Collateral ligaments injuries. In this condition we normally recommend our Ortho-Evo wide branch in an attempt to diminish the tension over your horse’s ligament and reduce the pain. Its also important to keep the horse walking and understand that it will only work on a soft surface.
- Lower joints problems like arthrosis or navicular syndrome. In this condition we normally recommend our Ortho-Evo rolled tip or our Ortho-Evo full rolling in an attempt to shorten the breakover phase and diminish the tension over the joints while bringing back the center of mass or weight and reducing the pain. As in any condition… keep walking is a must!
WILL GLUE ONS STAY ON IN ANY CONDITIONS?
Yes. Glue ons are the most reliable solution in the boots market. They’ll simply stay on the hoof no matter what. So! If they don’t perform like described we recommend you to ask your professional to check the glue that is using or even check his/her gluing procedure or technique.
HOW LONG CAN A HORSE WEAR A GLUE ON AT ONE TIME?
Your horse can wear them for as long as 2 months per cycle. Normally with a horseshoe if you keep them for as long as 2 months, the hoof will become too long and will tend to surpass the shoe affecting the leg’s and hoof’s biomechanics and risking the horse to become injured. BUT this does NOT happen when using our Evo glue ons? Why? The plastic material is so dense and reduces so much the impact forces that the inner tissues of the hoof receives less stimulus and diminishes its growth rate. As you see… whats perfect for joints & comfort has also another side.
IF MY HORSE HAS A HEAVILY INFECTED WHITE LINE... CAN ALSO WEAR GLUE ONS?
I personally recommend NOT to do so… because the glue itself, the hoof closing and the time of closure can make the situation worst. BUT if there’s no other option, you should:
- keep the living surface clean, change the horse’s diet and give a supplement (normally rich in I, Se, Zn, & Cu), but please search for a professional advice on this matter because every horse and every situation is different.
- Ask your professional of confidence to do the following:
- Trim the hoof and make an antiseptic bath for at least 20 minutes each hoof.
- Apply an antiseptic liquid on the white line from underneath with the hoof in the air.
- Apply some antiseptic clay on the lateral sulcus of the forg.
- Proceed to glue on as normally
FAQ – GLUE ONS Sizing
FAQ -GLUE ONS ADAPTATION
WHICH ARE THE MOST COMMON MISTAKES WHEN ADAPTING A GLUE ON?
Please understand that from our point of view, Glue Ons should be applied by a knowledgeable professional. Having that said, if you’re curious or you want to do it yourself I can tell you that the mistakes are common during the first times that you play around with the Glue ons, mainly because you still do not know the material and you have to get used to it. Having that said the 2 most common mistakes are related with:
- The heat itself: The normal learning curve that I have observed is that: at the beginning and because of your fear on melting the boot you’ll under-heat it preventing you to obtain the adaptation required. Once you’ll loose your fear you’ll become more aggressive and have a tendency to go to the other extreme and over-heat it causing the appearance of air bubbles or even melting part of the material. As is normal, the correct path lies between both extremes.
- The lack of imagination: Because owners or even professionals are normally not used to work with a material with the possibilities offered by our Glue Ons, you have a tendency to underestimate what can really be done with them (cut, trim, roll, heat, fuse, patch, attach, drill…). So my personal recommendation on that matter is “loose the fear” simply try what you imagine and you’ll realize that with our Glue Ons can be done!
WHICH ARE THE MAIN HEAT ADAPTATIONS FOR YOUR GLUE ONS?
Please understand that from our point of view, Glue Ons should be applied by a knowledgeable professional. Having that said, if you’re curious or you want to do it yourself I can say… Try what you imagine and you’ll realize that with our Glue Ons you can do it! Things like making it wider, narrower, longer, shorter, lower or steeper, asymmetric… are super simple to do!
Why obtaining a perfect fit is so important?
You should be aware that anything that you apply to the horse’s hoof is gonna have an impact. So you should try to diminish the negative aspects and promote the positive. But…
- Which are the positive aspects about using a glue on? The most important one is offer 24/7 comfort & protection against concussion and abbrassion to those hooves that are in need.
- Which are the negative effects that a bad fit can produce?
- They can become more expensive because will need more glue or you’ll loose them.
- They can alter the kinetics and biomechanics of the leg affecting directly to its comfort, performance & risk of injury.
- They can generate extra levers that puts undesirable stress on certain tissues of the leg increasing the risk of injury.
- They can cause discomfort because the glue gets under the sole
FAQ – EXTRAS ( Pads, Studs, Orthopedics…)
CAN I USE PADS IN THEM?
Yes, you can use full pads or frog pads to give comfort and/or stimulate certain tissues, BUT a professional advice is highly recommended. They will use their knowledge to decide what thickness (less than 6mm is recommended), what density, and what type of material is the best to use in each case.
Please, notice that any pad should be glued to the base of the Glue On to avoid undesirable movements.
CAN I PUT STUDS ON THEM?
Using studs is very important when dealing with clay mud & ice. So… Yes, you can use:
- Any type of boot studs. Please apply them keeping in mind that they cannot extend past the sole!
- Jumping studs. Please search the advice of a professional because the Glue ons sole should be perforated and a special nut should be used.
As an alternative to studs and mainly for those horses that works on wet grass, a professional can modify the grooves on the sole with a Dremel or any other similar tool to increase its grip.
FAQ – Others
MY HORSE IS SHOD, CAN I STILL USE YOUR GLUE ONS?
Although we recommend to everyone to keep their horses barefoot, we understand that somebody will want to use our glue ons in combination with metal shoes to increase the shock absorption when working on hard surfaces. Although they’re not designed for that purpose and we cannot guarantee it’s performance you could use them if you or a professional heat adapt them first
Ortho-Evo
¿Is your horse injured or chronically lame & you’re thinking on putting back metal horseshoes? Ask your PRO to apply the OrthoEvos to enhance & speed up the rehabilitation process and/or give long term comfort to your buddie with our OrthoEvo line of products.
FAQ – Features, Design, Durability, Performance…
Why should I use Ortho-Evos for my lame/injured horse?
Ortho-Evos are the FIRST and ONLY orthopedic solutions for barefoot horses in the market! So Evohorse SL is a real pioneer on this field.
Normally when a barefoot horse has a problem the vet comes in and the use of a metal horseshoe is advised. And this was quite normal in the past BUT NOT ANYMORE! With our Ortho-Evos those barefoot horses that are in problems can have a better and more friendly solution than metal horseshoes with all its features or advantages!
Before entering to the more specific reasons, let me clarify 2 things about Ortho-Evos:
- Because they’re an orthopedic solution they should be applied by a knowledgeable professional and if possible, teamed with a vet.
- They can be used as a Boot or as a Glue On, depending on the injury/problem and on the professional’s objective.
Having that said let me explain you why you should use our Ortho-Evos when your horse has a problem.
1.- Its singularity: Like I said before, our Ortho-Evos are the FIRST and ONLY orthopedic solutions for barefoot horses in the market! So… you, as a horse owner don’t have a lot of different possibilities to choose… Or go back to metal shoes (what I guess that you don’t want to) or use our Ortho-Evo line of products.
2.- Its variety: In our Ortho-Evos line of products you’ll find the type of orthopedy that your horse needs depending on the nature of its injury; wedged (for DFT problems), wide toe (for DET problems), wide branch (for joint and collateral ligaments problems), rolled tip & full rolling (for founder, joint issues, DDFT injuries…).
3.- Its material: Like the other hoof solutions that we design and manufacture under Evohorse brand, Ortho-Evos are made by the injection at high temperatures and high pressure of a special type of plastic which makes them extremely tough and super resistant to wear. For you, as an owner means that you’ll help your horse, give comfort, speed up its rehabilitation and save money using a tough material that has the potential to last for the entire rehabilitation process.
4.- Its adaptability, versatility and re-usability: Because…
- They’re also made of a thermoplastic material, they can be easily and fast adapted (preferably by a professional) with the help of a heat gun and/or a grinder to ANY hoof shape. So… your horse will be able to wear them no matter what!
- They’re are a highly precision machined shell by our latest generation numerical controlled lathe, they can be used as a Boot and/or as a Glue On. So… maybe your horse’s injury will be ok with an orthopedic boot, or on the contrary, your horse will benefit from its use as Glue on (24/7 comfort & protection) or achieve optimal rehabilitation if you start using it as a glue On and end up using it as a boot. As you can see they offer you a complete range of possibilities to make you able to find the best solution for your horse!
- When using it as a Glue On If everything is done properly (that’s why we recommend the professional application when dealing with glue ons and orthopedics) they can be normally re-used between 3 and 4 times having in mind that the protection are normally protecting your horse’s hooves for 2 months each time! Meaning that the same Glue On can last 4 to 8 months. Contributing to:
- You as an owner to reduce your costs and earn some months of tranquility.
- Your horse few months of complete comfort (if is hypersensitive) and less rehabilitation time (if is injured).
5.- Its flexibility: Like our the EvoBoot Premium and our Standard Glue Ons, the Ortho-Evos has been designed to be extremely flexible in all directions.
To truly understand why our solutions are so comfortable for your horse, you have to know how the different parts and tissues of the hoof behaves during the different phases of the gait.
What does your horse’s leg needs from a protection (any) during this phase? lightness and relaxation. I can assure you that our solutions has a minimum detrimental impact thanks to its ultra-light weight and its flexible design that when there’s no weight on it stays totally relaxed.
- At this point, the heels reaches the ground (at the same time or separately) and the impact phase begins. Because to the impact and interaction with the ground, the hoof decelerates abruptly, the tip rushes rapidly towards the ground leaving the hoof flat and generating a small sliding effect over the surface.
How our solutions let your horse’s leg & hoof do its job during this phase? For the next reasons of its design:
+ The rolled heels offers a smooth arrival just like a natural bare hoof would do.
+ The medium grip design allows the boot to slide over the surface… just as I explained before that a bare hoof does!
+ and if you’re using them as a Boot… The thick lower band of the bulb shield blocks the unwanted movements that can happen between the hoof and the inside surface of the boot during the deceleration, reducing the incidence of injury and giving the horse a safe footing. (this is super important for the free movement of a horse in boots).
Thanks to the V-shape of Sole plus the Accordion and the arched sole that permits the expansion of the lower surface and the flattening of the sole, using them as a Glue On lets your horse’s hoof distort as it should. But if you’re using it as a boot then there are more pieces involved…
How our solutions let your horse’s hoof break over as it should? Thanks to its unique design:
+ All the flexible and elastic aspects of the solution (the V-shape of the Sole, the Accordion, the arched sole and the wall) returns to their relaxed position at the same speed as the different parts of the hoof do.
How long do the Ortho-Evos last?
Our protections are made by the injection at high temperatures and high pressure of a special top quality type of plastic which makes them extremely tough and super resistant to wear.
Having that said, the correct answer is: it depends. There are a lot of situations that affect the lifespan of our protections like the type of terrain, the amount of riding, the medium speed, the weight of the rider, the way that the horse reaches the ground, the type of trimming, etc.
Please, understand this:
- Because this an orthopedic solution the horse will be mainly walking on soft or flat and hard surfaces, depending on the injury and the type of orthopedics that is being used. Which tends to enlarge its durability.
- Its durability will vary if you’re using it as a Boot or as a Glue On. Normally you can assume to be able to use the solution for longer as a boot than as Glue On. Mainly because as a Glue On the horse its using it 24/7.
Normally, when dealing with an acute injury, and with the help of a professional (to ensure that everything is correct) your Ortho-Evos will last all the rehabilitation process.
Do Ortho-Evos need any maintenance?
If they’re used as a…
- Boot (like our Premium), then you should clean them with water after its use and let them dry in a shaded place. Also, if you want to reduce the risks of bacterial build up on the neoprene of the second skin you could simply apply talkistine between uses.
- Glue On (like our standard glue ons) there will be NO need to do anything, permitting you to focus 100% on your horse’s progress.
In which surfaces should I use your Ortho-Evos on?
The answer is depending on the type of problem that your horse has that will basically determine which type of orthopedics he can benefit from… So, our recommendation is to follow the guidelines and advises from the professionals that you trust.
If you’re curious and want to know a little bit more about it, I’ll tell you that there are some orthopedics like the wide toe and the wide branch that ONLY works on soft/deep surfaces, there are other orthopedics, like the wedge that works better on hard flat surfaces, while there are others like the rolled tip or the full rolling that can be used on any surface.
Again… the rehabilitation process of an injury is a complex matter that needs knowledge and experience. So please, use our Ortho-Evos under the advise of a professional.
FOR WHICH PROBLEMS ARE YOUR ORTHO-EVOS RECOMMENDED?
They’re a perfect solution to speed up or improve your horse’s acute injury rehabilitation or even improve you’re horse’s comfort when chronic problems appear! But… for what problems do we usually recommend to call a professional and use Ortho-Evos for?
- Acute founder. Controlling the pain and giving comfort and protection 24/7 during the firsts months of that condition is crucial and will determine the future quality of life of your horse. That’s why we recommend to use them as a glue on for that condition.
- Chronic founder. In this condition, horses often have to live with chronic pain. That’s why the use of Ortho-Evos as a glue on (sometimes interspersed with the use of integral boots) greatly increases their quality of life thanks to the reduction or complete elimination of the sensation of pain 24/7. I guarantee that you will be able to corroborate this by looking at your horse’s face.
- Superficial or Deep digital Flexor Tendon injuries. In this condition we normally recommend to use our Ortho-Evo wedged as a boot when walking (if the horse is in stall) or as a Glue On (if the horse is in a paddock where it can move 24/7 over a hard and flat surface) in an attempt to diminish the tension over your horse’s tendon and releasing the pain. Its important to keep the horse walking and to diminish the angle of the wedge slightly and weekly.
- Common extensor injuries. In this condition we normally recommend our Ortho-Evo wide toe as a boot when walking on an arena (if the horse is in stall or a flat and hard paddock) or as a Glue On (if the horse is in a paddock where it can move 24/7 over a deep & soft surface) in an attempt to diminish the tension over your horse’s tendon and release the pain. Its important to keep the horse walking and understand that it will only work on a soft surface.
- Collateral ligaments injuries. In this condition we normally recommend our Ortho-Evo wide branch as a boot when walking on an arena (if the horse is in stall or a flat and hard paddock) or as a Glue On (if the horse is in a paddock where it can move 24/7 over a deep & soft surface) in an attempt to diminish the tension over your horse’s ligament and reduce the pain. Its also important to keep the horse walking and understand that it will only work on a soft surface.
- Lower joints problems like arthrosis or navicular syndrome. In this condition we normally recommend our Ortho-Evo rolled tip or our Ortho-Evo full rolling as a boot when walking or working (if the horse is in a stall) or as a Glue On (if the horse is in a paddock where it can move freely) in an attempt to shorten the breakover phase and diminish the tension over the joints while bringing back the center of mass or weight and reducing the pain. As in any condition… keep walking is a must!
HOW LONG CAN A HORSE WEAR YOUR ORTHO-EVO SOLUTIONS AT ONE TIME?
It depends if you’re using them as a Boot or as a Glue On. So… If you’re using it as a:
- Boot, your horse should ONLY wear it while is “working”.
- Glue on, your horse can wear them for as long as 2 months per cycle. After this time should be removed and if advised, re-used again (you can re-use the same material between 3 and 4 times with the help of a professional). BUT please notice that because your horse might be under rehabilitation 2 months can be too much and removals are advised to be more frequent, so please, follow your professional’s advise all the time.
FAQ – GLUE ONS Sizing
HOW DO I FIND THE CORRECT SIZE FOR MY HORSE?
Please! Remember that Ortho-Evos should be used under professional’s recommendation and guidance this is why we think that the best way to obtain a perfect sizing is to find a local experienced trimmer with a Fit Kit. We give you some help on that aspect in our section “Find your Pro” and “Find your Reseller”.
If that option is not possible or you want to do it yourself (which we do not recommend when dealing with orthopedics), you should:
- Measure the length and width of each hoof.
- Look at our sizing chart. Check the width first and make sure that the fit is as tight as possible. When you have done this, then check the length. If:
-
- The length is ok or too long you’re in the correct size.
- The length is too short, then we recommend you to find a Pro that adapts it to your situation making it longer with heat adaptation or taking a bigger size and making it narrower with heat adaptation.
- Determine if your horses hooves are Standard or Non standard. If they’re standard you’re ok, If they’re no standard, then a professional work is highly advised.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY MEASUREMENTS FALLS BETWEEN 2 SIZES?
Please, understand that our Ortho-Evo line of products are designed to deal with pathology and that’s why they should ONLY be used by experienced professionals. This means that we recommend you to call a professional to do all the process, from choosing the type of orthopedics to use, sizing, adapting and planning the rehabilitation route… But if you’re curious and wants to know what your trusted professional should do in this case, I would tell you that should get a smaller size and adapt it by heat.
FAQ – ORTHO-EVO ADAPTATION
IS HEAT ADAPTATION A MUST?
The answer to this question is… it depends on your horses hooves shape. To be more clear, if your horse has:
- Standard hooves (short, compact, non flared walls…) and falls into the measurements of a specific size in our sizing chart, then you will be able to do an out of the box fit. So in this case no, heat adaptation is NOT a must.
- Non standard hooves (flared walls, heavily underrun heels, heavily upright heels, or heavily crooked) then heat adaptation is required to adapt the protection to each situation.
Why obtaining a perfect fit on Ortho-Evos is so important?
You should be aware that anything that you apply to the horse’s hoof is gonna have an impact. So you should try to diminish the negative aspects and promote the positive. But…
- Which are the positive aspects about using an ortho-evo? The most important one is offer comfort & protection against concussion and abrasion to those hooves that are in need and also release the tension over the injured tissues to promote its fast recovery.
- Which are the negative effects that a bad fit can produce?
- Prevent your horse from recovering as expected
- Worsen the situation due to the presence of undesirable levers.
- Make it more expensive to you do to breaks or loses
- They can become more expensive because will need more glue or you’ll loose them.
So… please use our Ortho-Evos under the supervision or guidance of an experienced professional your horses quality of life is at stake.

Our Customers Opinion
The EVO BOOT is an extremely intelligent hoofboot promoting the hoof mechanism like no other model. You may have read this already a couple of times before but this boot is really doing it. It’s not only supporting the hoof sole – it’s flexibel horizontally as well as vertically. Just like the heels of a barefoot horse.
